DAFS has been providing Aerial Fire Attack coordination aircraft for fire management for over 2 decades. Dispatched to locations throughout Ontario, our Beechcraft King Airs and Aero Commanders as Air Attack Birddogs have proven to be the ideal solution for low-level aerial fire command and ensuring safe fire attack coordination of ground and air fire attack forces. Designed to operate in difficult environmental conditions, such as smoke and low level turbulence, our aircraft have consistently demonstrated their value when initial attacking and working to suppress large fires.
Fighting wildland fires is an extremely complex and dangerous operation. Effectively coordinating aerial helicopter, fixed wing and ground attack personnel is vital to the success of the mission and to the safety of all resources dispatched to the wildfire. The “Birddog” plays the critical role in air space management for 10 kms around the wildfire, the tactics that will be used to fight the fire and the management of aerial firefighting forces. They direct the movement of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, including leading air tankers on low-level drops on targets as well as providing forward air support and communications to assist firefighters on the ground.
